Today, my mother took me to our family doctor who happens to be her friend as well to discuss my irregular and painful periods. She told me she is going to put me on a low-dose oral contraceptive that does not prevent pregnancy. Does this pill even exist? I have a feeling she just told me that so it wouldn't encourage me to have sex.

Contraceptive means something meant to prevent pregnancy so I don't think that makes any sort of sense...

Well maybe she prescribed progesterone to jump start your period? If you take that every month you'll have a normal period. I would be worried that you have PCOS, cysts on your ovaries, based on your symptoms. Can you go get checked out by a real OBGYN? How old are you?

Maybe it's so lose does for you it wouldn't help you prevent you from becoming pregnant.
