Morning after pill

my boyfriend came inside me two days ago and on that day, i forgot to take my BC pill and i also just got off my period but i still took the morning after pill just to be safe. do you think i was being paranoid or did i do the right thing? also how will i know that it worked because i took it and i had the worst headache of my life and felt a little nauseous and thats about it
