Changing last name after divorce

My SO and I have been together for a while now. He was still legally married but him and his spouse had been separated about 7 years and were filing for divorce well it's finally done they are divorced but she refuses to let go of his last name. Let me just add in there that they separated because she cheated and now has 3 children with his own cousin! He wants to marry me, but I really don't want to change my last name to his just because some other woman has it already, it just doesn't have the same meaning. Am I wrong for feeling this way? I mean how hard could it be to change your last name back? I know plenty of women who have done it.
