Doing Cat litter?

I have 3 cats an I have to do the litter while my husband isn't home. Can anyone give me more information on what to do and what not to do?

My doc said that unless you plan on putting your unwashed hands in your mouth directly after cleaning litter box, you should be fine. Haha I would just recc wearing gloves and maybe changing it outside - then of course, just wash your hands.

Here's a good thing you could do, take your cats to the vet and get them tested for toxoplasmosis, if they test negative and they're ALWAYS inside cats, you have absolutely nothing to worry about:)

Line your pan with a Wal-Mart bag and out he litter in it that way you can just tie up the bag and trash it

I just put my nose in my sweater while I clean it and then wash my hands afterwards.

I would consider asking a family member or friend that lives nearby to come and do it for you. I don't have cats but I've heard that contact with cat poop can be really dangerous while pregnant

I've done it with all four of my pregnancies. My cat is indoor/outdoor so doesn't even hardly use her box in the first place. But the best thing is to change it frequently (everyday if you can) this actually lowers the chance. I prefer putting a litter bag in the box with small amounts of litter.  Then just tieing it up and start fresh every morning, so no scooping. And of course do it carefully and wash your hands very well after. It isn't a highly common thing and chances are already low with proper precautions. Your more likely to get it if you have a nasty box and your cats tracking it all over your house.

My doctor told me not to go near it at all

I haven't done research and I'm not a doctor, however, my obgyn first told me about the catblitter thing and he slipped in "well, this applies more towards outdoor cats but we tell everyone just in case." And I said "oh well, my two cats have never been outside before." And he said "then you'll be fine." I still don't do it, but that was what my doctor had mentioned.

My doc said wash hands before and after, and wear long plastic gloves,and only do when I HAD to.

From my first reading cleaning daily is best because it takes so many hours for the germ that is of concern to become an issue, and if your cats are strictly indoors less of a concern then if they were indoor/outdoor cats....
