How many times does it take for anal to not hurt

I had anal sex for the first time last night with my boyfriend. He liked it and I want to keep him happy but it hurt, how many times does it normally take until it doesn't hurt anymore? I've tried googling it (yes I'm weird) and the only answer I get is "use plenty of lube" and we used more than enough.
