12 week ultrasound?

I will be having my 12 week scan soon ( I'll actually be a couple days just under 12 weeks) but I was wondering a couple things. First was your 12 weeks scan done vaginally or abdominal, do you feel like one or the other gets a better image? Also what all can they see on a 12 week scan, what are they looking for? I already had a scan at 6 weeks for dating, so I was wondering what they will be looking for on this one. Thank you ladies!

They just confirm ur due date, check for the heartbeat. I had a blood test straight after so they can check for down syndrome, hiv ect. This is my scan from Friday at 12 weeks 1 day. Due date August 11th.

I'm in the UK and I had an abdominal one. Basically here it's just to check the length of the baby to get an accurate die date. She also got the heartbeat and check both arms and legs were there. I think that's about it. They go into more details at the 20 weeks scan 😃 I'm 13 weeks tomorrow. Here's my scan picture from 5 days ago. Good luck xxx

I have mine coming up too and I asked my doctor what they look for. she said they check the amount of fluid near the back of the neck I think?? and take blood. it's all to check for chromosomal abnormalities. I asked her about it but I also asked other questions and with the excitement of seeing my little on the screen for the first time, I honestly don't remember everything she said about the 12 week scan. I did get a lot of books and pamphlets from the doctor....guess I'll read up before I go for my scan. congratulations to you!!
