Child support?

Why are some men required to pay child support and others don't have to worry about that? I've been wondering why because I have a few friends who are single parents but some of their baby's father are not involved financially. Is it because they decide not to take them to court or something? I'm just curious and would like to know how this works.

Not all women force someone to take care of a child they didn't want.

I get child support for my oldest but I don't for my middle child. The bio father to my middle child is not on the birth certificate and is a danger to me and my other children so the court gave him a 5 yr no contact order and I moved state and left him behind us.

If the custodial parent doesn't pursue child support that would be why. Sometimes the non custodial parent can pursue it as well, if they are going to court for visitation rights I think they establish child support then too. Or if they have shared custody where one parent has the child 50% of the time and the other has the child the other half of the time then I don't think either would have to pay. There are so many different circumstances so it's hard to say but that's a few I can think of. Sometimes the mom, or whoever the custodial parent is, doesn't want the support so they don't go file for it.

It depends on the divorcee. If the other parent chooses to sue for child support than it becomes a big deal. My mom got alimony and child support from my dad because he was cheating on her the entire marriage. He had a really good job. And quit working just so he didn't have to pay, then when we turned 18 he got a good job again. Meanwhile my mom goes bankrupt from trying to afford three teenagers. /:

My sons dad pays child support, never missed a payment. We went to court right after we split. He is responsible for insurance. He's a great dad and he gets him when he's suppose to. We work with each other very well on visitation. I think that's just part of their duty as a father because the mothers pay for much more for the child than the fathers do (normally) because we have them the majority of the time. My sons dad is understanding of that and never complains about having to pay!

It depends on who has custody, my mom had primary custody so my dad paid child support. They might not have to with shared custody. It depends on what the judge rules.

Perhaps they forfeited their rights to the child and the parent with custody allows them around. I don't know.

It depends on if you get an order or not .

The order is based on a percentage . It also is calculated on how much time they have with the child, how much money you make , and sometimes is lowered if they are providing insurance for the child at a cost.

If the man has multiple child support orders their income is subtracted for each child the support so, if you are the 3rd mom and there are 2 orders already, the mom of the first child will get the most money based on how they calculate for "serial families"

It's not something that just happened, the person that is taking care of the child has to go to court for child support or if the the person gets government assistance I believe they have to go for child support.
