Let your newborn cry?

Question

Should you let your newborn (1 month) cry? I don't mean for an hour but sometimes I'm washing bottles or doing dishes or running laundry or God forbid using the bathroom and he's always with me. I just want to finish up what I'm doing but I get paranoid and rush to him. I feel like if I just leave him there while I finish up I'm ignoring him so I don't know what feels right.

I was told by a child psychologist that an infant needs to be taught how to self sooth. So when your vacuuming finishing dishes ect and the baby is crying or fusing for attention it is best to let them cry till your task is done. Now of course if the infant is in need of something stop what you're doing and attend to your bundle of joy((:

Some babies just enjoy hearing themselves. Letting them cry a few minutes is no big deal👍🏻😊

For a few minutes is ok- good for their lungs- but a child of that age to cry for an extended period of time - can cause the infant distress - their has been studies to this stuff-

A few mins is ok! But don't let it get beyond 15-20 where baby hasn't heard a soothing voice or atleast consoling touch 😉

I think it's fine to let him cry for a few minutes. I mean when you gotta go you gotta go! It won't hurt him to wait a minute. I never rushed over every time mine cried. I mean, think of people that have several children, sometimes that baby will have to cry for a minute while they tend to their other children. My daughter learned to self sooth and she is now 4. Very smart, very independent and very outgowing. She's a great kid and I can't see how it affected her negatively in any way :)

Yes!  Letting him cry for that short amount of time is totally fine.  At that young age I wouldn't let him cry for a long time, but you have to get things done and take bathroom breaks here and there.  You're doing great--  and your little one will be fine :)

I believe when a baby that young cries, it's for a reason. They're not whining because they can't have cookies or yelling because you hurt their feelings. They're babies and they need something. Bottle, love, diaper change, discomfort. You don't need to run right to them after .3 seconds. But don't just let them sit there and cry while you do a sink full of dishes. (Not pertaining to you, just an example).

I heard that the more you let them cry when young the more likely they will suffer from low self esteem/anxiety or depression when there older.

Personally I would not. At that age they need to know you are there and will provide for their needs. At that age they don't cry just to cry, they have some sort of need needing to be met....

I personally would not. I don't believe in self soothing at that age I believe that they cry for needs so I check for what they might need.   Most of the time I just latch lo and the fuss is over.
