Anemia??

Question

So my ob called me to tell me that my blood test came out i had anemia??

Why is the reason that i could have anemia.. And is it dangerous?? Thanks

It's low iron. They'll probably give you iron pills. It's important cause during labor there will be blood loss and your body needs to be able to compensate this.

Baby is using up all your iron, so you need to supplement. I take OTC slow release iron for mild anemia. I believe if your anemia is severe the doctor will prescribe something. You can start with an OTC supplement and ask about it at your next visit (or call). FYI, iron supplements are constipating, so you may want to add some extra fiber to your diet or take a fiber supplement. I also had to add stool softeners when I started iron, but that plus Metamucil a couple times a day is keeping me on track.

It's because you're low on iron. If your doctor calls you and gives you information about your health or the baby's, you need to ask questions. They can always explain it to you and help you understand what's going on and what to do about it.
