Period was late!

So I have had irregular periods before, meaning, some months they've come late and other months I didn't have it at all, but for a long while they have been pretty steady. This month came and I have yet to have my period. It's about a week and a few days late. So I took a pregnancy test, and it was negative, no second line on it at all, so definitely a negative. I have been ttc. I've been married for about a year. Due to my husband working nights and sleeping during the day we do not have a lot of time to have the right amount of sex that we need to have to get pregnant. I just don't know if I should take another test or assume I'm not pregnant and wait for my period. Any suggestions?
