Why an early US by RE?

Question

My RE scheduled my first US and appointment for Monday and I'll only be 5+3. I conceived naturally and my hCG and progesterone levels are great with the help on 200mg progesterone/day (appointment was scheduled before we had first beta test results back).

From what I've read, there's a good chance we'll see nothing other than a sac at this appointment, so why am I coming in so early? I've been trying to google this for two weeks and I have no answers. This is my third pregnancy (no children) but first pregnancy working with a RE. What should I expect to see and happen at this appointment?

Whatever the reason is, I'm glad they do it because they caught my ectopic before it had a chance to do any damage.

They'll get to see the baby-to-be is where it should be, and that's all. I am from Hungary and we usually get first US around this time or maybe a bit later for this reason. But of course we get waaay more US scans than American ladies as I understood from what I read here. I am 15 weeks and I have had 4 scans so far: the early one, one at 8weeks for the heartbeat, one at 12 weeks for genetic disorders and one just yesterday because I went to my doctor for pap smear and he did one if I was there already. And I'll have the next in 3-4 weeks, again because of the genetic disorders. That will be my first and probably only 4D.

They are doing it because of what you been through. Than they will schedule another one in a few weeks to make sure everything is still great and it will ease your mind..
