how to make missionary better?

i lost my virginity last night and the whole time i felt bad because he was doing everything and i was on my back. i tried grinding my hips and meeting his movements but i feel like that wasn't enough. i asked him if he wanted me to do anything to make it better but he kind of laughed it off :/
