What is a birth plan?

This sounds really odd to ask but no one has talked to me about this or asked what mine would be? Is it just something I put together on my own or does my doctor help?

There's plenty of birth plan questionaires online you can print out. Then fill out what you want, go over it with your doctor. Nobody expects you to know exactly what you want for every aspect of birth. But they're a good way to find out what's most important to you so your delivery staff can help in the best way.

Do whatever needs to be done to get baby out safe! That's why I don't "have a plan" and don't feel a need for one. IMO

If you have the baby center app or even if u go their website online, in the tools section, they have a whole checklist of things during labor and delivery that u might want or not want and you just have to go through it checking all the right boxes and it puts it together for you on one sheet of paper which u can print out and present to ur ob and/or nurse at the hospital.

Its good to have because some hospitals can be very pushy and against your wishes. Aside from emergencies you can be forced into things you may not want/need out of convenience for the doctor and/or nurses working. For example if you had an emergency c section you may write that your S/O accompany the baby when baby leaves the room or not to give the baby formula just because you are in recovery (if either are against your wishes).

You could put it together on your own or get your doctor to help you. It's a plan of action regarding how your labor and the birth of your baby is handled regarding any medical interventions or whether or not you want an epidural, etc. There are hundreds of templates you can find online if you have no idea where to start.
