Progesterone shots??

Hi everyone, I have a question. So because my daughter was born at 34 weeks and the doctors don't know why or what caused it, my doctor wants me to start taking progesterone shots at 17 weeks every week til I have this baby to prevent me from having it preterm. Has anyone else had to do this? I thought the baby makes its own progesterone in the placenta after 10 weeks so I don't understand how this shot will help.

Just a regular ob but I did alot of research and she is the best one in my town and has delivered over 4000 babies so I trust her. But idk

I'm currently almost 10wks and have needed to take progesterone suppositories because I have low progesterone - I'm not sure how much I will need after the first trimester if any as long as my levels are going up and staying up.

My best friend has had this done for her second, third, and now fourth pregnancies. They hurt her butt but they work and keep the baby safe.

Are you seeing a specialist or just your regular OB? I see a parinatologist and they were doing internal ultrasounds every 2 weeks for a couple of months withy last one.

No. I only had my initial appointment / dating ultrasound. I have another appointment next Tuesday for blood work and stuff but they said they didn't plan to do an us at that one. My first appointment was at 6w 1d and at the next one I'll be 10w 1d. I'm hoping they change their minds and do another us so I can see my peanut. :/

Yes, my first child was born at 32 weeks and for my second and now third pregnancy they've wanted me to do progesterone injections. Progesterone decreases the 'irritability' of your uterus so it makes it more difficult to go into preterm labor. Have you also been getting more ultrasounds to monitor cervical length?
