Beginning to pack James-Walter's hospital bag! This is my first pregnancy- I'm wondering what are the major "must-haves" to pack in my bag, baby boy's bag, and my husbands bag? What are also just some good things to have that are not necessarily a must?

You don't really need to take anything for the baby just an outfit to go home in, car seat and a cover up. They will give you stuff for the baby and they will also send you home with stuff as well. I loved the little white shirts they gave at the hospital when I had my daughter. I took so much stuff and didn't even need any of it they sent me home with a baby bag with milk, pampers and ect. Congrats!!!!

I have no personal experience yet but here is what my friend packed for her first:
 
For herself
Coming home outfit 
Yoga/Stretch pants 
A couple of T shirts (not knowing how long she might have to stay in the hospital)
Set of nursing bras
Bra liners
Change of panties 
Meternity/Heavy duty pads
Dry shampoo (she wasn't sure shed be up to taking a shower)
Tooth brush + toothpaste
Hairbrush
Gum / Mints 
Deodorant
Gadgets + Chargers
A novel

She had a pillow and a fleece in the car for her husband.

For the baby she had diapers, wipes, diaper cream, a couple of onesies, a coming home outfit, wraps and a bottle just in case the baby didn't take to breastfeeding. And car seat.

We don't get any free baby stuff from the hospital as someone mentioned above, so have to be prepared for everything ourselves. But all in all I thought it was too much stuff! I don't know what I will pack yet.

I agree you don't need much for baby. Just a change of clothing and car seat. Just make sure you pack enough for yourself.

Anything that makes you feel a little more at home. For hubby I suggest a pillow and blanket in case you want to keep the room cold firing labor. Chewing gum, flip flops (I wanted to shower and I am a germ freak so I had to wear my flip flops in the shower at the hospital lol!), magazines, extra hair ties, phone chargers, etc. :)
