Why is this???

I went to the doctors on Monday and they took my blood pressure and it was pretty high and my dad took it when I got home and it was way way lower.... My dad is an anesthesiologist.

White coat syndrome.... It's a real thing!!! Lol my blood pressure always shoots up at the doctor.

Mine was a tad high at just one appointment when it usually runs low. It was the first time I had driven there myself, so I think that was it.

My blood pressure was always high at the doctor with my second. After they caught on, the nurse would make me lay down and wouldn't even come take my blood pressure for like 10 minutes. White coat anxiety!

Stress, activity level, how recently you ate, size of the blood pressure cuff they used, etc can all effect.

My blood pressure is always high at the doctors office. I get stressed and annoyed when I have to wait. I can feel that it's high so I just let them know that it will be high and here's why. If I have relaxed by the end I will have them retake it.

Sometimes if I am stressed or anxious, my blood pressure rises. I find that when I have long wait times at the doc, or I'm nervous about my checkup, my anxiety rises which in turn raises my BP. If it seems a little high, I just have the nurse wait a minute and take it again to see if it changes. Usually the second time it's lower. Not sure if that helps.
