Supportive girlfriend

How can be more supportive to my long distance boyfriend? My boyfriend been depressed lately because having no job right now and the lack of Independence right now how could I get him to speak up and make smile again? I'm really worried that his depression is getting worst because I've been through depression myself and it's not something you can get over it will get worst if don't get help
