Any firefighter wives out there?

Question

I have been dating a firefighter for two years and we are talking about getting engaged. I love my firefighter so much, but his schedule between working at the station and his second job kills me sometimes. I know it's not gonna get much easier just because we get married, but I'm hopeful. Do any of you ladies have any words of wisdom?

I love my firefighter :) We've been together almost 5 years, living together 3 years, and married this past fall.  He is career in one city,  volunteer on-call with our home town whenever he is home, and works a side job. So definitely a crazy schedule.  It can be tough at times, but I've just gotten used to it.  I use the time he's gone to be able to clean and catch up with my own hobbies, and then we just really appreciate our time together.  I'm not sure if you guys live together, but after living together 3 years now, it's become a routine and doesn't even phase me.  We are TTC now and when we do have kids,  he's going to stop working his side job which will make child care much easier too.

I have a different perspective. I am the daughter of a firefighter. The shifts were tough as kids, but he was home for all the important stuff. The hall is live a family and we kids were welcomed there when we went to visit. One Christmas the whole truck came over for coffee to watch us open or presents, we were the coolest kids on the block lol.

I've been married to mine 2 years and together 4.5 years. We have a 2.5 yr old and one on the way and long shifts are trying but you learn to live life like that. On the flip side he is home for a few days and able to help out and spend quality time with the family. Our biggest struggle is his sleep, being on call 24/7 and not sleeping while on shift takes a toll. Especially if we plan something right after he gets off shift its hard to say if he had any sleep and will be enjoyable that day! It's a special thing and it takes a devoted man to be a firefighter. Just always be supportive and talk through things, best of luck and safety to you both! Love always finds a way 💞
