What's the deal with being induced?

Question

I was induced with my first because I was 42 weeks and showing no signs of going into labor. 
I went into labor with my second by myself at 39 weeks. My doctor wasn't even talking about an induction even though I wasn't dilated.
With my third baby, my water broke at 34 weeks. I was not in labor so I was induced. 
I hear so many stories about women being induced for no reason really and I was wondering why drs are scheduling induction dates.

I wish this wasn't true, but some doctors do induction because then they can fit you into their schedule.
With my first born the doc went thru her diary and told me she wants to book my induction on 25 Feb. 2013. I straight out told her there and than that I will not be doing any induction unless my baby or my lives are in danger. 
And that was also the last appointment (12 Dec. 2012) we had with her. I made copies of my file she had and found a new doc.
Baby wouldn't have waited for her schedule anyway. He was born naturally, without induction or pain meds on 5 Feb. 2013. A entire month early, but healthy.

It all just depends on what's going on my first I was induced at 38 weeks my fluid was low and they were worried he didn't have enough and so they just induced me...my second came natural even tho I was scheduled the following day to be induced I was miserable and the baby was cramped and wasn't moving very much...every case is different but nowadays they don't really induce unless it's needed

I was induced at 39 weeks 2 days because during the time my doctor what checking to see if I dilated any, he could feel the baby's head in position, but I wasn't dilating at 38 weeks. I told him I wanted to try to go naturally and I did everything possible to induce labor naturally, I ate fresh pineapple like crazy, I was walking and dancing, my husband and I had sex like crazy etc and we went back for our next appointment and nothing changed. I was so disappointed and upset and explained what all we had tried. I was told chances were incredibly high that I'd go past my due date and need to be induced anyway, so I opted to have her via induction early. When she was born, the cord was around her stomach and neck and had she been bigger, we could have potentionally lost her. Her cord collapsed as soon as she was out, so we couldn't do the delayed cord clamping. Her heart rate wasn't stable during labor and it was one hell of an experience. I just keep thinking how grateful I was to have been induced early, cause had she been much bigger I would have possibly needed a c section or worse could have happened. I think Momma's just need to go with their gut when given the option. I was dead against induction my entire pregnancy up until that point to be perfectly honest.

I was induced at 39 weeks because I had gestational diabetes. My dr didn't let his patients got past 40 weeks due to the risk of stillbirth or having a large baby. I would never choose to be induced that shit sucked. Pitocin is my worst nightmare

I was induced a few days before 40 weeks. I'm not sure why I was. My doctor just said basically there was a lot of people he was seeing and if it came before it would be fine but he wanted to induce because of scheduling and he thought she might be too big for me to deliver anyway because of my hips. I arrived and was only dialated 1/2 a cm so it probably would have happened anyway. I do feel like I missed a big part of it though and won't be induced ever again unless I have to because the pain from being dialated was horrible

My doc basically scared/backed me into a corner about getting induced. The way he said it, because the baby didn't come out by her due date I needed it done. Now I know that that isn't necessarily true, they can go up to 42weeks. The one childbirth class I was able to go to didn't mention this. It wasn't until I moved and took a class here that I realized that my previous county had a pretty high rate of intervention-heavy births in my state. And I learned that just because they're a doc, doesn't mean you can't say no and that you can always switch to another one. But that pain is so bad, I wouldn't do it again. On top of that, the epidural didn't work/they might have put it wrong. Even my bursitis/spd pain isn't bad enough for me to want to go through that again cuz at least those I can manage.
