Cloth diapers and disposable.. how many should i buy?

Sorry for this silly question but i'm shopping for what baby needs and i plan to try and mix cloth diapers and disposable ones as i think it helps in the costing. I'm a stay at home mom so i dont mind the cloth diaper. So how many cloth diapers should i get for the first time? 5-10? Do i need to prepare anything else like a special laundry detergent for the diapers?

With cloth diapering it depends on how often you plan to wash. I plan to do so every other day. Babies go through about 12 in a day so I'll likely get 25-30. I'll be using regular tide powder. Fluff love university website has a whole list of different detergents rated for cloth diapers. Might also be worthwhile to find out if you have hard water so you can use an additive like calgon or borax to prevent mineral build up (which makes the diapers less absorbent).
