Is it really necessary to buy a crib if you dont have space at all?

I intend to co-sleep the first few weeks and my mom got me this sweet cradle as a gift.. i'm temporarily living in my mom's house (renovating my apartment) and my room is really small, there's no space to put even a mini crib in my room and i prefer not to put a crib in my mom's living room because its noisy and hot. People tell me cribs may not be necessary cos baby might want to co-sleep with you for a long time..
