How does a registry work?!

So if I go online and create a one how does that work? What's the point of one? What do you even put on it? Like would I put everything I need on it? I'm confused:(

You make a list of everything you need or want for baby. Make sure you don't have a lot of extras because you want people to buy your necessities. Send out the information with your baby shower invite.

I didn't know registries were so difficult to navigate

It helps those who want to get you a gift get you things you need/want. That way you don't end up w 10 strollers (if someone buys an item off the registry it updates to let people who come after know that it was already bought).
My one advice is don't put any clothes on the registry. The people who go off registry tend to buy clothes (who can blame them - picking out baby clothes is fun). However if you put in on the registry too you might just get clothes and none of the gear.
