Is browning different from simply spotting?

If so? How? Because for a year almost now I've been ovulating with a lil brown in it lately. I thought it was maybe because i just started using tampons. I use active tampax .Recently it happen during ovulation then came back a couple days before glow says my period is suppose to start which is the 15th.so I'm like.😮lol
