What!?!? Is this legal?

Went and had some blood work done today. Long story short been waiting this test done for years Doc says i don't need it I'm too young. I call bs. Anyway, i get online to see if my results have been posted and there i see it... A common factor in all my past blood draws. Low platelet count. A low normal is 175 mine is 125. Why would she not tell me this? Is the fact that my body is lacking in the clot making department not an important thing to tell some one TTC!?!? Why wouldn't88 she tell me? Is this legal to with hold this info from me?

Definitely wrong group, but, as long as your results are being posted, wouldn't that technically mean she's not withholding your medical information? Obviously, she isn't a very caring doctor, and I think you would be better off seeing a specialist.

125 is low but it's not a horrible number. 150-400 is the normal platelet range. I don't know if it's illegal for her not to tell you, but it's definitely unethical. She probably just doesn't want to worry you because there's not much you can do and you're still making enough platelets to be clotting sufficiently. It shouldn't affect your ability to conceive but may be a small issue in the delivery room as far as bleeding goes, but I assure you they take many precautions against that, and they'd see your labs and respond appropriately. I wouldn't worry too much. This is why people shouldn't get their medical information from the Internet, it only causes unnecessary stress lol.

Well regardless if she is in the wrong or not. The low count confirms that i needed the test i went in for done. But i will be looking for a new Doc after all this. I don't appreciate a Doc who doesn't listen to my concerns especially when it involves something that will effect my overall well being.

Just because it's been posted doesn't mean she has seen it yet. A lot of times the nurse sees blood work results before the doctors. The doctor or nurse calls the patient or waits until their next appointment to discuss the results.

You really do not have to worry unless your platelets are less than 50,000.  At "125", that means they are 125,000.

Are you taking any meds?
Do you bruise easily?
Do you have a "rash" like little pin point red dots on your skin?

Did they do a PT/PTT? (Blood draw as well to measure your bleeding  times?).

All this can be OK! Just speak with your doctor and go from there.

What was in your CBC?  What other results were off?

There are multiple factors that go into blood clotting. Platelet count is only one and a count of 125 is not life threatening and there isnt really a big risk of bleeding. Trust your doctor.  If they think something is of concern it probably is and they will tell you. However, no news usually means good news.

Is it fatally low? No i know that but what makes me so mad about is why she didn't say "oh by the way you have low blood platelet count" its been this way for over two years. Ranges from 120-130 over the last two and half years. My aunt is a RN when i talked to her about this she confirmed that yes my Doc should had said something about it. I do bruise easy and as far as a rash idk i am very pale so what could look like a rash to me is just plain irritation or dry skin to someone else. Two years ago i spent four days in the hospital for unknown abdominal bleeding. They scoped me every which way found no tears or any internal wounds that would cause it. Was sent home on a hope you feel better come back if it don't stop basis. It stopped but i was never told why it happened to begin with. Would just be nice to know that i have someone who is also interested in my well being as her job title describes. Not some who isn't going to say something about a count that's off even if it is just a little thing.

That is not critically low. If it was something she thought was an issue, she would have contacted you personally.

Sometimes even if a result is low a doc will monitor it to see if it was a fluke or if it's consistent to you. As far as platelets go - unless it is very critically low there isn't a whole lot to be done. My mom once had a critical low platelet count of 37 and her provider just wanted to check it again at a later date. Also, just because it's low based on some reference ranges it may not be for the lab that your clinic uses so she may not even consider the result abnormal.
