Would you take your 2 week old to a wedding?

I need advice. My husband's cousin is getting married next weekend and we are trying to decide if we should go. Our son will be two and a half weeks old. My gut tells me no, but I don't want to offend my dear mother in law and the family. There is a lot of family coming in from out of town, including my husband's grandma who has yet to meet the baby . I'm picturing EVERYONE wanting to hold him, touch him, pass him around etc, while they're drinking and partying. He just seems so vulnerable and it feels wrong exposing him to a room full of germs. If We don't go, I'm afraid we will upset my husband's mother and I don't know the next chance we will have to see the out of town family.

Have you been in a similar situation? What would you do? Thanks for any feedback.

If you feel up to it, I would say it's safe to go. However, I wouldn't let many, if any, others hold the baby, ESPECIALLY if they've been drinking. In the end, it's your baby and you are responsible for their safety, which I would say is your number one priority. Your family may be disappointed at first if you don't go or go but don't play pass-the-baby, but they should get over it.

We are going to be in the same situation with our twins! We reached out to the couple to see what they preferred, don't want to reck their special day with crying babies, on top of just having a c-section and most likely being on pain meds. We will be going to the wedding portion but that's it and we will not allow people to touch or hold the babies. Definatly don't want sick babies!

If you go make sure they wash hand or use hand sanitizer before touching baby

I would ask the bride. And, I would have a back-up plan, invade baby is late.

Took my son and he was fine. At that age he was still sleeping most of the time so we just told people we didn't want to wake him by taking him out of the carrier. If you feel to many people are around or need an excuse just use feeding or a diaper change.

If you're concerned about too many people holding him then put him in the car seat. He will probably fall asleep and you can put a cover over to keep away overly curious people and help keep him from getting over stimulated too.

My son is 3 1/2 weeks old and his pediatrician strongly discouraged us from taking him out in public during flu season. She said we're fine to have visitors who've had flu and Tdap shots (whooping cough is in our area too) but to wait on anything else until he gets shots 2 months from now. I'd check with your pediatrician and go from there.

My sister was at my wedding with her 6 day old baby. She wasn't due for 2 weeks after the wedding.
