Bleeding longer than usual

My gynecologist had me take fourteen days of a hormone to restart my period (I'm 22). About three days after the last pill I started my period again. Right when I started I took the first pill of my new birth control. Every morning now I've taken one pill. That was 12 days ago. Is it normal to bleed this long on a new birth control when first starting it? I've never been on the pill before so I'm honestly not sure what to expect symptom wise.
