Tanning bed while pregnant??

I've always heard you're not supposed to tan while pregnant but why? Other than the effects it can have on your body while you're not pregnant. Does it affect the baby? Has anyone been tanning?

Tanning is a big no no. It can increase the temp of the water around baby and actually burn the baby. So if you want to tan your legs fine but keep your belly covered!

A high body temperature can hurt the baby, it's the same reason doctors become very concerned if you have a fever over 100.4. In addition, you are more likely to get burned while tanning when pregnant because your skin is more sensitive. Laying outside in the actual sun for brief periods of time with sunscreen can be okay as long as it's not too hot out, but a tanning bed is an absolute no no.
