Not sure if I want to..

My boyfriend and I have been dating for over a year. We had a friends with benefits type of relationship before we dated and it really messed me up because at the time sex was all he wanted from me. At this point I can safely say we are in a healthy relationship and want more from eachother than sex. We haven't slept together in over two years. I haven't seen him in four months. He is living out of state and I'm going to go visit him soon. I have been seriously considering sleeping together but I think the way I felt about sex in the past is stopping me from wanting to do it now.. wondering if you guys have any advice?
