Normal?

Question

Is it normal that my 8 day old won't stay awake to nurse? I don't know if he has gained any weight or not. Won't know till tuesday.

I know it happens with newborns which is why i think part of the reason people get discouraged and stop nursing because it's hard and time consuming. 
I've been told to "rough" them up to keep him awake so he can nurse. Make him uncomfortable: no clothes, rubbing his head and back, changing positions, and burping him while he's sitting up and you're supporting his head. 
I'm sure your doctor will have more insight at his check up. Good luck and don't get discouraged.

Mine always falls asleep. I was told it's normal because they feel comforted in mom's arms. The shortest my girl nurses before falling asleep is 5 mins. Longest is 15 minutes.

Mine falls asleep fast. We strip down to diaper to help keep him awake.
