Medical Staff attitudes
This is a long rant. I'm a second time mum going for a VBAC this time around. I am nervous but also very determined to have a VBAC. I'm finding that when I question or say no to certain procedures I get talked down to by the doctors and nurses. It's so frustrating because it's my right to know the info and my choice if I want it or not. Don't get me wrong I haven't said no to the routine prenatal care but I question and/or say no to extra stuff.
Recently my doctor wanted me to speak to the anesthesiologist about drug allergies in case there is an emcs needed. I understood and agreed it was a good idea since I had a bad reaction with my first born. Well the next week I got a call about a pre-op appointment which scared me because that's not what I agreed too and I want nothing to do with a cs this time around. I went anyway thinking there just must have been a misunderstanding and I wanted to make clear what drugs I am allowed to have. Well they started taking my vitals and asking medical history which I didn't find necessary and told them so. I just wanted everyone on the same page with drugs. They started talking down to me that everyone needs this info for a pre-op and we need to be ready for a rupture. It really worked me up because that's not what I went there for, it was supposed to only be discussing drugs. The entire time they were talking to me like I was a dumb kid because I questioned different procedures and drugs. I called them on and said I didn't appreciate the way they were talking to me. The anesthesiologist even laughed in my face when I said I wasn't interested in the epidural. At the end of the appointment they said they'd call back in June for my pre-op appointment. I walked out, I will not be going back to see them. It was already made clear what drugs they are permitted to give me. I was so worked up with fear, anxiety and rage. It's an uphill battle for a VBAC and it shouldn't be.
If you read my entire rant, thank you and my apologies for it being so long.
