Child ungrateful at birthday party?

I was at a birthday party for a five year old. When she opened presents, it was quite obvious when she didn't like something. She opened many presents, set one aside without bothering to look at it and say thank you. She actually opened one, rolled her eyes, and sighed with disappointment. When the present-opening was over, she never thanked anyone. Do you find this behavior appropriate? Do you think it would have been good to say, "you should say 'thank you'?"

I say it's the parents fault. She obviously wasn't brought up with manners.

If I were the parents I would be mortified.  I send out thank you cards still (a lost art) and I make my son personally thank people in person as well as call them.  We are living with the generation of "Silver Spoon Syndrome".  Totally sucks!

That is completely disrespectful and the parent should definitely make the child stop and thank people! I would be disgusted and wouldn't even bother  getting a bratty kid like that gifts in the future! Lol

Rude! Sounds like both that child and the parents need a talking to. Just because it's your birthday, you are not entitled to anything and everything that you want. If you are given a gift, you say thank you, whether it's exactly what you wanted or not because that person was kind enough to give you anything at all. 5-year-olds are absolutely old enough to understand basic manners. The eye-rolling is most appalling to me. Not only is this child not being taught good manners, they are picking up very bad ones (ahem, Mom and Dad...)
