What's your views on parenting books?

Currently 14 weeks pregnant, I will be a first time mom. And just had a few questions for moms that are into parenting books. I'm very curious, I love reading so I don't mind learning a few tricks and tips on raising a child. What types of books you recommend I was looking at Amazon.com and there is an overwhelming selections of books. What are your views?

I did what to expect when expecting it helped alot not confusing or to much at one time then did the next book after that plus patenting mags do have done good articles from mom's and docs. ..

The "What to Expect" book is really good for exactly what the title describes. I used that book for reference many many times. As far as "parenting" books, I'd avoid them. All children are different. When the baby is born, you two will find your own groove and form your own relationship for how things are going to work in your family. With that said, I did read a very good book called "Bringing Up Bebe". It is a true book that basically documents an American woman's experience raising her child in France. It compares different ways of doing things and she talks about what worked and what didn't. It is written very conversationally, almost like you were reading a diary. I really enjoyed it, and I am a very picky reader.

I highly recommend "what to expect in the first year" as far as tips on caring for your baby. It helped me a lot in the first few months as a first time mom. Not sure I'm going to be using "parenting books" in the future though, as every child is so different. Good luck!

Nurture Shock is absolutely wonderful although it's not really for raising infant. I also just started The Whole Brained Child, it seems pretty promising too.
