Being tactful...
Whenever my mother in law comes over... Obviously she just wants to hold the baby. But I don't want her to!!! I carried this baby for 9 months and wondered what she'd look like, smell like, be fussy or sleepy and she's only 2 weeks old. I want to hold and cuddle my baby. The other issue is that when she does come over she stays for like 3 or 4 hours and hints don't work with her, but on the flip side if I say something directly such as "were really tired, we would like some alone time now" she takes a serious offense to it! When my baby is screaming and I know she just wants to eat- from my boobs no one else's, she'll continue to hold my baby and not give her back because "she can get her to stop". Obviously not... She's hungry... Well she's off of work all week this week and desperately wants to come over but I just don't want her to. During the week when my husband is at work is my time to cuddle with my baby and sleep when she is sleeping. I don't want to have to not only give up my baby for her to hold but entertain her as well. My husband thinks I'm being a bit harsh, but is willing to let his mother know that she needs to back off if I let him know it's getting to be too much. How do I tell her things tactfully and respectfully to where hopefully she won't take offense to it and then call my husband to lie about what a bitch I was. I don't know how to say things such as "no I want to hold my baby right now." "Leave." "Don't go through my kitchen cabinets, I've been handling the dishes just fine on my own." "Don't touch my laundry, my underwear is in there." "Don't go behind my back and let my dog do things I don't want him to do- I'm trying to train him NOT to jump up by the baby". I don't know how to say some of these things tactfully.
