Should I pay her?

Husband and I are moving into a new house. The house is close to MILs house. MIL cleans houses for a living. She said if I buy the correct cleaning supplies she will come clean our house twice a month. She sounded like she really wanted to do it. I said great! Husband says we have to pay her to clean our house, but she said nothing about payment. I would rather clean our house myself instead of paying for her to do it. What should I do? What is an average payment for a bimonthly maid?

I wouldn't assume it's free. I would offer to pay or tell her no thank you.

She should be paid.  Even if she refuses payment, you should insist or get her a gift or gift cards.

We pay $125 biweekly for a 2700 sqft home with all hard wood flooring or tile, 4 bedroom and 3 bath in South Florida.  We are adding another 900 sqft which includes 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and a den and the price will go up to $175 biweekly.

I would just pay her. What nice help and she may need the cash. 
I pay $100 every two weeks for biweekly cleaning in my Arizona home. 
My California home is more expensive. I would say it depends where you live.

Because this is her job you must respect that this is a professional coming into your home even though your related. Pick a price your comfortable with.

Be wary there may be conflict if/when she stops cleaning to your satisfaction.

Personally, I wouldn't want my MIL (even though we are bests) all up in my home or business.

Try not to get frustrated and don't let anything get personal. You want her to do it at a reasonable rate or you don't (for whatever reason, price, privacy, personal reasons). But if you do agree, I think it's imperative you pay her something. When it's a business transaction it give you an out of you ever want to stop and she can not ever be like "I cleaned your house for free for six months..." If there is is ever a problem.

Keep it professional or don't do it.

Maybe compromise and just buy her lunch or something? If she expects payment just pay her that one time and then tell her you'll take care of

I think you have to pay her, it's her job! There's a difference offering to help out for a month right when baby arrives and doing it consistently biweekly. We pay $20 (CAD) an hour

It's $95 bi weekly where I live but I also have a MIL that's very hands-on helpful... Lots of times when I feel like it's too much she tells me over and over how happy it makes her to be able to do something for us
