Being Impatient

My S/O & I are in our mid 20's & I am a virgin, whereas he thinks he's a virgin (that's another story). We have been dating for a year now & I told him at the year mark, I would be open to talking about us having sex. We did & I decided that I personally & financially am not ready for it just yet (God forbid I do get pregnant the first time). He obviously asked when he thought I would be ready & I asked: "Can we reevaluate 3 months from now? His answer: "That's fine, but I am not waiting longer than a year & a 1/2, that's absurd." I was quite upset with him saying something so asinine, that I left his house. Am I being too much of a prude for wanting to wait (since it is my body after all & I'm 1/2 the equation) or is he being an impatient douche?
