Sore gums a year after wisdom teeth extraction.

I had my wisdom teeth, all 4, out almost a year ago (about 11 months) and recently one of the spots where one was has been sore. Like growing tooth sore. Is it normal for it to be sore again after almost a year? I'm the only one in my family that has had to have it done so I don't know anyone else to ask. I haven't called my dentist because I have to wait for my insurance to roll back over to make an appointment so I can get more work done (root canal)Also any remedies to help it?
