Losing my virginity?!

I've been dating this guy for a couple months and but we have been friends for a few years. We are both 16. I think we have a pretty serious relationship because we had liked eachother for a couple years. And To put it simply I think I'm ready to lose my virginity. He is really shy and respectful so I honestly think it's gonna have to be me to make the first move when it comes to this. I'm not necessarily in a rush to get it over with I just trust him and I'm not scared. I know he will treat me right. I Just don't want to rush into it and I don't want to assume he is ready to do it too. Do you think I should just try to talk to him about it? I just don't really know how to. Do you guys have any advice??
