Have you or will you be getting the whooping cough vaccine while pregnant?

I am having a difficult time deciding whether or not to get the whooping cough vaccine. I did not have that option with my first so I never have to think about it. She did not get the disease either.  I am now about 31.5 weeks and I declined it at first but now have unsure feelings. I don't of course want my baby to get whooping cough, but then again I am afraid of getting a vaccine while pregnant, thinking who knows how it could affect my baby.  Any thoughts?

They wouldn't suggest it if the benefits didn't HIGHLY out weight the risks. That's something very important to remember. Plus all of the risks listed could be totally unrelated to the shot itself. If anyone has any sort of illness or anything within a time frame after the shot it HAS to be reported as a possible side affect regardless of if it happened because of the shot or not. So somebody could die of natural causes and death would be listed as a side affect because it legally has to be. Don't freak yourself out. I would be more concerned about my child dying from whooping cough than anything else.

Yep getting mine tomorrow. Midwife said it covers baby also from birth to when they get their own vaccinations. Worth it I think to be safe.

Plenty of smart people have scienced all over this and getting the vaccine helps give baby some immunity. It's a good way to protect yourself and your baby.

I got mine at just before 30 weeks.

They recommend that you get while pregnant so that you can pass the antibodies on to your baby. It may be a slim chance that your baby gets it, but I know I wouldn't want to be the one responsible for killing my child because I was too ignorant to get a shot.

When you get it after baby is born it doesn't matter if it is giving baby antibodies in your breast milk. It takes a while of those antibodies building up for it to protect baby enough to make a difference. They are most likely to be infected in their first couple months before they get the shot and it would take that long to build up an immunity. So you essentially aren't giving them any benefits of your shot after birth.

My husband and I got ours 2 weeks ago. My Dad got his 3 or 4 weeks ago. My Mom, sister, and her hubby are already current on theirs (they traveled to Costa Rica the last 2 summers for mission work). 😊

I got it. I'm not one of those anti vaxxers and I trust medical professionals. Not sure why people are against it unless they have medical reasons for avoiding. My husband got it too.

I choose not to. After doing research and knowing that the best time to get it is right after birth that way the antibodies for sure get to baby through Breastmilk. Everything before then is guess work. There hasn't been enough research to prove it actually helps but also no one knows what risk it could pose to mothers with close pregnancies who get hen close together. My kids are 2 years apart so after talking with hubby we thought it best to not get it
