Do you think that children benefit more with both gender roles in life?

Question

Now before everyone freaks out, here me out. Do you think it's important that children from single parents and/or same sex couples should make sure that their children have healthy relationships with someone from the opposite sex? Like maybe an aunt or uncle? Or do you think that it doesn't effect children? Feel free to add your mature, respectful opinion to the mix.

Yes. I fully support same sex couples adopting children but I do feel like it would be important. Just as an example if two men are raising a little girl I think it would be important for her to have a positive female role model like an aunt or older sister in there life. Especially if she's very feminine. Also having someone to guide them through puberty in a way that only another women could

My husband was brought up with a single mom. He so badly wanted a father figure in his life. He feels he missed out on a lot and his mom didn't understand all the stuff he was going through especially as a teenager. His sister feels the same way. She turned to boyfriends to get affection from a man that she wanted from a dad or male figure. So yea I think children can benefit from having a good male and female role model in their life.

I feel like it does somewhat. I'm all for same sex couples raising children though. But for example if two men were raising a girl, they won't really relate to female experiences as well as a woman does

Children benefit from a happy home and family. Both parents are not necessarily required for that

We had this conversation in health class once because some people were unsure about gay and lesbian couples raising children for this exact reason. Obviously people brought up the fact about single parents and all but some people were still kind of iffy.  When it was my turn to speak I said how the children can find role models of any gender anywhere. If they're missing a male role model then there's uncles, grandfathers, teachers and even friends' fathers. Same goes for female role models. They don't have to be blood related or even in the close family for the kids to be able to look up to them.

Exposure? Sure, they need to see that the opposite sex is no different then they are and everyone has to respect each other regardless. Do they actually have to have a relationship beyond acquaintance? No.

I believe that it should be important, my mother was a single mom for a long time and I remember just loving the time I had with my uncles and grandfather. Of course I loved my mom, but I feel like I greatly benefited from having that special time with them. I was able to receive that make affection that I never got from my dad. I will forever cherish those memories. Of course this is just my outlook on it. I would think that most people would agree, I'm not saying that mother or father couldn't handle everything as a single parent, I'm just saying that I think it could be very beneficial for a child.

I think it's important for kids to have role models of all genders that are not their parents. Children go through phases of not liking their parents and not wanting to be like their parents so it's beneficial if they still have other people that they consider to be role models through these phases. Ideally they would have many people to look up to and feel supported by. Family members, family friends, teachers? community leaders, etc.

My dad grew up without his father around due to mental illness. My grandfather was in a mental hospital for a long time. I also never met my grandfather i only talked to him once on the phone when i was like 5 years old. My great grandma and grandma raised my aunts and uncle and my dad. Honestly my dad is the best. My dad had alot of uncles to look up to though since my grandma was 1 of 9 children. My dads advice for me though was and has always been what he was taught from my great grandma and my grandma. My dad has always said that he had the best mom and she was a phenomenal woman to do what she did. I have to agree with that because she was the best grandma to all of her grandchildren.
