Can you misscarrage during a period?

During my last period (it was on time and just started my merina IUD) it was sorta heavy, lots of cramps and bigger clots then I usually have.. Is that normal with a IUD or did I misscarry? I have a 2 year old but I don't know what a misscarry looks like either then google and I wasn't concerned till someone on here posted there's .. So any advice welcome as long as it's not rude! I won't be getting it checked as I know I'm not pregnant right now (IUD) and it's a little late now haha
