Alternatives for treating Group B?

I am having a homebirth and tested positive for Group B Strep. My midwife offers IV penicillin if I want to go that route but has anyone treated it differently with alternatives? Have you refused the test? Do I take the risk of the baby being exposed? What's your thoughts.

I'm 37 + 4 and learned to today that I tested GBS+. My midwife offers antibiotics in the penicillin family via IV during labor OR will utilize a risk based approach as they do in Europe. To go that route we just need to create a letter stating our stance and acknowledgement of the risk and sign it.

This link has some good info! It mentions using the garlic, probiotics, hibiclens/chlorhexidine soap, and discusses the risks that would lead to antibiotics being very highly recommended.

I'm planning on the risk based approach and utilizing the options mentioned to hopefully eliminate the infection myself prior to labor.

I'm wondering if my situation is different as they found GBS in my urine during a uti early on in pregnancy. My midwife said that makes me an automatic candidate for the antibiotics and they probably won't test again. Anybody else hear about this?

How far along are you? I have been taking a double dosage of a specific Probiotic that my midwife said drastically decreases the chances of testing positive. My plan is to test at 36 weeks so I can try to resolve it if I'm positive in time to get tested again before the birth. Anyway, in addition to other suggestions mentioned, I would say load up on probiotics--kombucha, kefir, supplements--anything you can get your hands on. Hopefully you can retest and find it's resolved!

My midwife offers inserting garlic into you vagina for 3 days as a first result. (After the 3 days you'll be tested again to make sure strep b is gone) As a second option, antibiotics by mouth. And lastly the IV which she really doesn't recommend.
