Birth control pill side effects?

I'm going to be starting the birth control pill on my next period, and I'm kind of nervous. I have bad health anxiety and normally react poorly to medications of any kind(physically). I'm most worried about nausea/weight gain. I know it's different for everyone, but what side effects did you guys experience? How long do they last?
