*PSA* Ask for a copy of your blood work

Right away, and even if the doctor doesn't call you to say there are any issues.

I just happened to ask for a copy of my blood work to review on Friday (at 15 weeks) and discovered that my 10 week prenatal screen results indicated a TSH level FAR exceeding the safe level for a pregnant woman in her first trimester, yet I had not been contacted by the OB and was not going to be contacted by the OB.  Fortunately I got the results when I did and was able to get a second doctor (my father) to take a look and guide me to the correct course of action. I went an entire 5 weeks exposing my baby to potential developmental risk simply because this item on my blood test was overlooked by my OB.

I beg you ladies: please, please ask for a copy of your blood work right away and if possible get a second doctor opinion along with reviewing the results yourself. Safe levels of most items can be easily found online by a simple search on Google, which can provide references to medical guidelines for pregnancy. I don't want the stress, anger, frustration, and possible harm that happened to me to happen to anyone else.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy pregnancy
