Is the TDP vaccine shot necessary during pregnancy or when your baby is out ?

My ob said that I had to have it by 34 weeks and they also said when my baby is out also. I'm just curious as to why it is necessary?

When you get it while pregnant you produce immunity and pass it to the baby by placenta. They will get their first shot in 2nd month of life, sp protection from you fills the gap between birth till baby's own vaccines😊

If you get it in the third trimester, the baby gets some antibodies to whooping cough. If you were just already immune or had the shot before (or after) the baby, then she doesn't get those antibodies. And she can't get her own vaccine until 2 months and pertussis can kill her. So that's why they recommend getting the shot every pregnancy in the third trimester.

I had this talk with my doctor as well and it doesn't pass immunity to the baby it is to vaccinate you so if you were to contract whooping cough you don't in turn pass it on to your baby one they're born.
