Boyfriends doesn't like me spending money on him

So I've recently started work and I still live at home so all my money is just mine to spend, I like buying my SO things but he's getting annoyed now because he can't return the favour even tho I don't care about stuff like that, I want to take him to dinner for our 2 and a half years and he doesn't want me to pay! I feel like he wants to be the one taking care of me and doesn't feel comfortable that I'm the one paying for things
