Why do so many people use non-dating apps as ways to find hook ups?

Why turn a perfectly good app with good intentions as a way to plaster your picture and who you're interested in to get laid? There's tons of real hook up and dating apps with other people looking on them, so why bother with other apps.

Just two examples in case you don't know what I'm talking about. 1 Whisper was a app to make anonymous confessions like the rant room, but it's more than not used for hook ups and prostitution.

2 On Glow I see serveral hook up requests in the LGBTQ room and sometimes in general health out of no where. Like they don't actually know we don't have messaging and if someone wanted to respond they would have to post their phone numbers publicly. Did you only download the app for that reason, or????

As far as the LGBT+ room is concerned what I have seen is people trying to extend their friend group. It doesn't mean that they're looking to bang. The community itself is not so obvious as straight people.

The assumption when I go out is that the majority of people are straight, and that some may even be hostile towards LGBT+ people, and that really diminishes the pool of potential friends and partners. 
That room exists to give that small pool of people a better chance of finding and connecting with people that understand and deal with what they have.

If people want to use outside of dating apps to find someone, a friend, partner, baby sitter w/e than okay. It's not common on glow, and as far as whisper is concerned they can take that anonymous risk. Maybe they'll learn from it and maybe they won't.

I want to say the first 3 but who knows anymore. I once had a guy hit on me on a site to watch anime. I was like "What?"

After I told him I wasn't interested he turned into a total dick head. Turned out he was 15 and I was 25 at the time. I ended up laughing because it was just that funny. I did end up sending a copy of what he had been sending me to his mother and father. I don't know how it ended but I bet it wasn't in his favour.

I met my Husband on whisper.   Neither of us was looking for a 'hook up'.   I was going through a LOT of crap and he was there for me.   We talked on there for months before meeting before exchanging pics or even giving names or any big details.  We got married in January of this year and our daughter is due in just a few days.   So sure whisper was what brought us together but it surely was not the intention for either of us.

For my husband and I we met on an app but it was for learning each other's language and cultures, I even had female partners on there too so we never intentionally planned on seeing each other. Two years later we met, fell in love and got married. We never used a non dating app as a hookup. That's just my side of it
