Advice??

My husband and I were officially divorced in March and I was awarded sole custody of our son but agreed to visitations. It's not stated that I have to give him visitations but I didn't want to come in between the relationship he could have with his son so we agreed on our son visiting him every other weekend but now my son says he doesn't want to go visit him or have anything to do with him. He's six and always tries to get out of visiting his father, I don't want to force him to go. Would it be wrong if I didn't make him visit? Advice and opinions would be appreciated.

I would be worried that his father or someone in his fathers life might be abusing him. A boy at age six not wanting to see his father is a little concerning.

As parents our job is to teach our children to do the right thing. We have to encourage them and explain things to them on their level so they can understand.  You know why it's important for that relationship to be maintained. I suggest sharing that with him and encourage him to go. Unless he's told you that there's some problem, I wouldn't let him stop going. It wouldn't be hard for your ex to go back to court and get court ordered visitation if he wants to. Then you won't have a choice. Better that your son understand and agrees to go on his own....would be less traumatic.

So I am in a situation where I have sole legal and physical custody of my daughter. My ex husband is not allowed to see her because he is a violent person, and court ruled that having any contact, even supervised, would be detrimental to my daughter.
Now, I can only assume that there is a very good reason why the court left it up to you if there is any visitation, and did not give 50/50 custody or an actual mandated visitation schedule. My advice is listen to your son, because as PP said, a six year old not wanting to see their father is a tad alarming. I always raised my daughter with the moral that she should not be forced to associate with someone who may be detrimental to her life, solely based on the fact that they are related by blood.
The question to ask is why does he not want to see his father?

If doesnt want to go, then dont make him. his dad can come by and leave a happy meal or a small gift or a letter or card. let your son see the effort his dad makes and maybe it will change his mind.

As I child who has been through a parents divorce, I believe you should talk to the child’s father, maybe see why they aren’t getting along. When I didn’t want to see my dad or mom it was usually because I was upset with one of them. I believe your son is probably just having a hard time adjusting to the divorce. If the situation gets any worse then I would let your son do what he believes in right.
