Vow Renewal Do's & Don'ts?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this or not. 
My husband and I were married this past January in the courthouse of the town we live in. We are planning a vow renewal and reception for next year so that our families can be there since they weren't able to be there when we married. My mother told me that I had given up my right to wear a wedding dress to our vow renewal and reception next year since I got married in a courthouse and that she wouldn't attend it if it was too extravagant. So, I was wondering if any of you lovely ladies have done a vow renewal and what is appropriate and what is not? Thank you in advance! ♡ ♡

You do whatever you two want to do for it! My husband and I got married in a courthouse and then the following year did a huge reception. We did it ALL my dress bridemaids cake I walked down the Isle and we read our vows to each other. It was perfect and we were so happy. I have a HUGE family my mom alone has 12 siblings so We decided to celebrate twice so that everyone could come. 💕 what will make you two happy is what you should do.

We had a normal wedding first time.. White wedding dress, black tux, the whole deal.. We are planning our vow renewal for our 10 year anniversary.. It's going to be camo themed all the way around cause that's what hubby wants.. No one can tell you the right and wrong way to do a renewal.. It's all about what you and your partner want..

Uhhhhh no. Nobody "loses" the right to wear a dress. Unless it's her swiping the card to pay for it she has no jurisdiction on what you can or can't wear.

If my mother said something like that to me, I simply would not invite her. What a harsh and shallow thing to say to your daughter. 
You can wear white and do what you'd like. Please do not let other people's opinions change your event. I did that and after our wedding I wanted to cry. It didn't feel like us at all. I still get sad when I think about it. When we renew our vows we will do it our way. Screw everyone else

I got married in March of 2015 at the justice of the peace and my vow renewal is in July 2016 I'm wearing a wedding dress not white but ivory color and and I'm having a big reception for those that weren't there to witness us get married so I'd say if u want to wear a dress go right ahead it ur day not hers

Pfft. My brother and his wife did this. They had the typical wedding vows and all. She wore a wedding dress and had a wedding party. It's whatever you want it to be!! If she is going to be a grouch about it then it's probably better if she doesn't go.

Your mom is being unreasonable. Of course you can wear a wedding dress to a vow renewal!! And technically since you only eloped I would consider this to be your wedding and would do the whole thing. I would love to do a vow renewal for our 10 year anniversary, and we had a fairly large wedding (75 guests, catering hall, the whole thing). I would most definitely wear a white wedding dress again, just probably a simpler one.

The crazy thing about weddings and vow renewals is that you can do nearly whatever you want. The police aren't going to raid the church just because you wore a wedding dress. Go all out!
