Is it weird to name your baby after a childhood friend?

She was a close friend in elementary school and I've moved 8 hours away, and I haven't spoke to her since I moved.. 7/8 years ago besides the casual like on facebook, lol!
I think it would be fine and Im overthinking but just wondering if you'd do it.. I love her first name and would looove to use it of we have a little girl.

Personally I wouldn't consider it naming your baby after that person if the reason is you just like the name.

It depends on if it's because you like the name or because you have some strange fetish for this woman haha. I am slightly worried about the fact we want to call our baby Jack Alan (After Jackie, partners mum, and Alan after my Dad) but my neighbours kid is called Jack and the father is called Alan. Worried it might be a little weird. We have our reasons for the names but they won't know this unless we tell them and we barely speak to them so it seems strange to just blurt it out as well haha.

I am naming my daughter after my first best friend. We lost contact for 25 years, and have been back in touch for about a year. She was so excited!

Of course we all know so many people that you are likely to name baby the same as someone else. We are struggling with a boy name and the only thing i don't want to do is name baby a relatives name (unless its like a grandparent)
