OB or Midwife?

Hello Ladies,
Just wondering if you guys can share some differences and advice on which is a better way to get medical attention from. I've never been seen by a midwife but with this pregnancy I'd like to have a natural no medication birth.

We are going the all natural route as well, I have a midwife who works with a hospital.  So we will have the baby in a hospital in case there's emergency situation, but otherwise he will be deliver by a midwife with minimal interventions.

I had an Ob/gyn my first back in 2009 and now I have a midwife for the one due this October. I loved my doctor but there were things that happened during prenatal visits and delivery that I wish would have gone differently. I didn't gain any weight until after my first trimester, but when I did he would comment negatively about gaining too much weight. Every appointment! I ended up gaining 30 pounds, right in range, so I'm not sure why he was so mean about it. Also my birth I didn't feel heard. My baby's heart rate kept dropping and they put me on oxygen and just kept on raising the pitocin. I was dialating, but they did pitocin because they said I should be feeling stronger contractions. I asked about turning the pitocin off later because it was affecting the baby's heart rate because my contractions were so strong and close together, but they didn't answer me. Ended up tearing because they had to use a vacuum to hurry and get him out. It's not like my Dr. Did these things just because, it's just the way they are taught. My midwife really listens to me and explained to me that the amount of pitocin was the reason all that happened. I just feel listened to and I hope I have a better experience. The birthing center I will go to is under a hospital, so if anything happens I will just get transferred and still be under the care of my midwife.

A midwife is typically more apt to follow a natural plan. An OB is just so medically minded and used to having the quick option of pain meds, induction, and C-Section available. A midwife most likely will try to tailor your birth to your plan before going any of those routes. It really just depends on where you want to deliver as some midwives may not have hospital access (most/all Ceritified Nurse Midwifes will have hospital access as they work under a physician's access) Shop around and see who you like best! I personally love my OB's clinic.

I'd love to see a midwife but it's not covered by my insurance and we can't afford that much out of pocket. I've been going to my ob for years so I'm very clear with what I want with her and she respects me.
